Wade through the Gallatin River and Upper or Lower Madison River or head to the many cool spring creeks to fish and float amidst spectacular scenery. For an adrenaline-filled experience ride some of the most challenging rapids through breath-taking scenery along the Gallatin River on a whitewater rafting trip. Go solo or join a local guide for the ultimate outdoor experience. Big Sky has many amazing trails to explore the forests and peaks of this beautiful wilderness area. Hike the miles of trails in the Gallatin-Custer National Forest or Lee Metcalf Wilderness Areas or stay closer to home, take a scenic lift ride to the top of the mountain and hike the trails through fields of wildflowers, dipping your feet in cool streams back-dropped by mountain peaks. For a fun and easy family hike, hit the Ousel Falls Park Trail, a 1.6-mile hike along the creek to the Ousel Falls.

If you are looking to lift your feet off the ground, there are many options. You can sail through the skies on a zip-line above the forest floor with incredible views of Lone Mountain and the Spanish Peaks of the Madison Range, or experience the thrilling adventure of rock climbing in Gallatin Canyon. Horseback Riding is a way of life in Big Sky, ride through high mountain meadows on 1,500 miles of trails within the Gallatin National Forest, where you will see the Sunken Forest and if you’re lucky, you'll encounter the wildlife that make this their home.
