The Hungry Moose

The Hungry Moose

In the summer of 1994, owner Jackie Robin and her 18 month old son, Andrew drove over an hour to two local farms, River Road Produce offering organic vegetables and fresh cut flowers and Visser Greenhouse growing their own vegetables and flowers and also importing fresh fruit from Washington State and Oregon. Jackies husband, Mark stayed behind to set up the table and tarp for the first Big Sky Farmers Market held every Wednesday that summer. As the temperatures grew colder, the idea to bring the market inside took hold and the Hungry Moose Market opened its doors in October. The opening of this market specializing in produce and natural foods included Big Skys first pumpkin patch with pumpkins grown at the local farms. Supporting and promoting our local farmers and purveyors is how The Hungry Moose Market and Deli got started. Here are some of the local products youll find at The Moose.

Moe`s BBQ

Moe`s BBQ

Moe’s Original Bar B Que was founded by three Alabama boys: Ben Gilbert from Athens, Mike Fernandez from Tuscaloosa, and Jeff Kennedy from Huntsville. After meeting at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, they instantly became friends and had a mutual interest in all things Southern: BBQ, blues, college football, and whisky. In 1988, Mike hooked up with Moses Day in Tuscaloosa and began learning to fire roast meats. When Moses fired up his backyard barrel pit, everyone in T-Town knew where to go. The boys were lucky to learn from Moses and his distinct style makes up Moe’s original flavor of BBQ. Moe’s Original BBQ is a Southern soul food revival where great food is served in an atmosphere that is relaxed, spontaneous, yet civilized….well, sometimes.
